Cafe Hopping: Drury Lane

One of the better named cafes in Singapore, Drury Lane occupies a great spot in the heart of Tanjong Pagar. Taking the train from Pioneer, we strolled in to sample out their coffee and cooking during a recent lazy weekend in July.

The drink menu was refreshingly simple, with choices of white, black, or brown coffee. The brown, equivalent to a mocha, was my selection, and it didn't disappoint. The chocolate-coffee mix was very good, producing a very smooth flavor.

The sandwiches were phenomenal. My choice was the beef salami breakfast, complete with avocado, mushrooms, and topped with poached eggs and truffle mayo. I've never had beef salami with avocado and absolutely blew me away My brunch companion got the eggs benedict, which were very good but not quite on the same level.

The vibe within the cafe was excellent. With the kitchen placed in the general dining area on the first floor, it was fun to watch my food being prepared right out in the open. Those interested in single origin beans would certainly appreciate the wall dedicated to the varieties right by the entrance. Seating is fairly varied, with high stools on the first floor and more traditional desks dotting the upper floor, where you can catch a nice view of the street if you arrive early.

It certainly has a great location, right in the caffeine hub that is Tanjong Pagar plus Duxton. The upstairs seating looked lovely, and better suited for those planning to stay for a while. I'd definitely encourage people looking for a unique, tasty breakfast with solid coffee to drop by Drury Lane.
